Stepwise House
Last Updated: 10 April 2025
Effective Date: 10 April 2025
These Terms and Conditions govern the relationship between Stepwise House ("we", "us", "our") and individuals ("you", "the participant") who enquire about or enrol in any Stepwise House educational programme. By submitting an enquiry or making a programme payment, you agree to these terms.
1. Definitions
- "Programme" means any educational programme offered by Stepwise House, including the One Small Step Programme, Careful Borrower Programme, and Terraced Plan Engagement.
- "Session" means an individual meeting between the participant and a Stepwise House facilitator, conducted in person or via video call.
- "Facilitator" means the Stepwise House staff member conducting sessions.
- "Participant" means the individual who enrols in a programme.
- "Fee" means the published programme fee at the time of enrolment.
- "Materials" means any documents, notes, or written plans provided to participants as part of a programme.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting an enquiry form, making a programme payment, or attending a session, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions in their entirety. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in a Stepwise House programme. If you are under 18, you must not submit an enquiry or make a payment.
3. Nature of Programmes
Stepwise House programmes are educational in nature. They are designed to improve participants' understanding of financial topics relevant to Malaysian households. All programmes are delivered on a one-to-one basis, either in person at the Shah Alam studio or by video call.
Stepwise House does not provide financial advice. Facilitators do not recommend specific financial products, lenders, brokers, or investment platforms. Nothing communicated during a session constitutes financial advice as defined under Malaysian financial services legislation. Participants are solely responsible for any financial decisions they make following a programme.
4. Programme Enrolment
Enrolment is confirmed upon receipt of the programme fee in full (or the first instalment, where applicable). Session scheduling is agreed between the participant and Stepwise House following confirmation of enrolment. Stepwise House reserves the right to decline enrolment at its discretion, in which case any payment received will be refunded in full.
5. Payment Terms
All programme fees are quoted and payable in Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Current fees are:
- One Small Step Programme: RM 460
- Careful Borrower Programme: RM 1,720
- Terraced Plan Engagement: RM 4,250 (payable in full or in two instalments of RM 2,125 each, with the first instalment due at enrolment and the second after the second working session)
Fees are payable by bank transfer or such other methods as Stepwise House may communicate. Fees must be received before the first session commences unless an instalment arrangement has been confirmed in writing.
5.1 Refund Policy
Where a participant cancels before the first session, a full refund will be issued less a RM 50 administrative fee. Where a participant cancels after the first session but before the final session, a partial refund will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for sessions not yet delivered, less the RM 50 administrative fee. No refund is available after the final session has been delivered. Where Stepwise House cancels a programme, a full refund will be issued.
6. Session Scheduling and Cancellation
Sessions are scheduled by mutual agreement. Participants may reschedule a session with at least 48 hours' notice at no additional charge. Rescheduling with less than 48 hours' notice may result in that session being forfeited without refund, at Stepwise House's discretion. Stepwise House will provide at least 24 hours' notice if it needs to reschedule a session and will not charge any additional fee as a result.
7. Participant Responsibilities
Participants agree to:
- Engage with programme materials in good faith.
- Not record sessions (audio or video) without prior written consent from Stepwise House.
- Not share programme materials with third parties without written permission.
- Not misrepresent themselves or their financial circumstances in ways that would affect the nature of the programme.
- Treat facilitators with respect during all sessions.
Stepwise House reserves the right to terminate a programme without refund where a participant engages in conduct that makes continuation of the programme unreasonable.
8. Intellectual Property
All programme materials, session notes prepared by Stepwise House, and written plans produced as part of the Terraced Plan Engagement are the intellectual property of Stepwise House. Participants are granted a personal, non-transferable licence to use these materials for their own household's purposes. Participants may not reproduce, distribute, or commercialise programme materials without prior written consent from Stepwise House.
The Terraced Plan Engagement produces a written document that belongs to the participant as a personal reference. The underlying methodology and format remain the intellectual property of Stepwise House.
9. Confidentiality
Stepwise House treats all personal and financial information shared during sessions as strictly confidential. Facilitators will not disclose session content to third parties except where required by Malaysian law. Participants are encouraged to share only information they are comfortable sharing; there is no obligation to disclose any particular financial detail during a session.
10. Disclaimers
Programmes are provided for educational purposes only. Stepwise House makes no representation that completing a programme will result in any particular financial outcome. The usefulness of programme content depends on how the participant applies the knowledge in their own circumstances, which Stepwise House cannot control or predict.
Programme content is reviewed periodically for accuracy. However, financial regulations and market conditions change, and Stepwise House does not warrant that all information provided in a session reflects the most current available information at all times.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Malaysian law, Stepwise House's liability to any participant arising from or in connection with a programme is limited to the programme fee paid by that participant. Stepwise House shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential, or financial losses arising from decisions made by a participant following a programme.
Stepwise House shall not be liable for programme delays or cancellations arising from circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to illness of the facilitator, force majeure events, or failure of third-party communications infrastructure.
12. Termination
Either party may terminate participation in a programme by giving written notice. The refund provisions in Section 5.1 apply. Sections 8 (Intellectual Property), 9 (Confidentiality), 10 (Disclaimers), 11 (Limitation of Liability), and 13 (Governing Law) survive termination of these Terms.
13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from or in connection with a programme shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
In the event of a dispute, both parties agree to attempt informal resolution by contacting Stepwise House at [email protected] before initiating formal proceedings. Stepwise House will respond to any written complaint within 14 working days.
14. General Provisions
- Entire agreement: these Terms constitute the entire agreement between Stepwise House and the participant in relation to programme enrolment, superseding any prior communications.
- Severability: if any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
- Waiver: failure to enforce any provision of these Terms on a particular occasion does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
- Assignment: participants may not assign their enrolment to another person. Stepwise House may assign its obligations under these Terms in the event of a business transfer, provided the quality of service is maintained.
- Notices: written notices from participants should be sent to [email protected].
15. Changes to These Terms
Stepwise House may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. For participants currently enrolled in a programme, the Terms in place at the time of enrolment will continue to apply unless both parties agree otherwise in writing.
