Stepwise House opened in Shah Alam in 2019, after its founders spent several years in financial education outreach at a credit counselling body. What they observed there shaped the practice in full: most households do not need a comprehensive financial overhaul. They need to understand one thing well enough to act on it, and then to keep that action going.
The name came from that observation. A terrace of steps does not ask you to jump to the top — it places one flat surface at a time in front of you, each reachable from the last. The studio was designed around the same logic. Programmes focus on one question, one decision, or one habit at a time. Nothing in the curriculum asks a household to absorb more than it can reasonably carry home and use.
The studio is located in Shah Alam because the founders grew up and live there. It serves Selangor households primarily, though online delivery means the programmes are accessible to adults anywhere in Malaysia. All sessions are conducted in English, with Bahasa Malaysia terms explained wherever they appear in financial documents.
Stepwise House does not hold a financial advisory licence, does not manage money, and does not refer clients to lenders, brokers, or platforms. It is registered as an education provider. Every programme it offers is educational in character — the household, having understood things more clearly, makes its own choices.
What We Work Towards
Clarity Over Volume
Every session is designed to leave participants with one thing they understand clearly — not ten things they have heard of. Depth is more useful than breadth at household scale.
Realistic Scope
Programmes are built around what households in Malaysia actually face: EPF calculations, home loan structures, ASB considerations, and monthly cash-flow patterns — not abstract investment theory.
No Conflicts of Interest
Because Stepwise House earns only from programme fees and not from product referrals, the studio's interests are the same as the participant's: that the session is genuinely useful.
The Participant's Own Pace
Sessions are not timed lectures. If one area needs more time, we give it that time. The programme continues at the rate that works for the household attending it.

Each facilitator has a background in financial education or consumer financial literacy — not in sales, lending, or investment management.

Participant Confidentiality
Information shared during sessions is not passed to any third party. Notes from sessions belong to the participant.
Education Provider Registration
Stepwise House is registered as a private education provider under the relevant Malaysian regulatory framework.
No Product Referrals
Facilitators do not refer participants to banks, insurance companies, investment platforms, or brokers of any kind.
Data Protection
Personal data collected during enrolment is handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Curriculum Review
Programme materials are reviewed annually to reflect any changes in Malaysian financial regulations, EPF rules, or loan market conditions.
Post-Programme Feedback
Every participant receives a short feedback form after the final session. Responses are read by the lead facilitator and inform programme development.
Financial Education in Malaysia — What Stepwise House Offers
Financial literacy among Malaysian households has received considerable attention from policymakers and consumer organisations over recent years. Yet the programmes most households can access tend to sit at two extremes: short awareness campaigns on the one hand, and lengthy adviser relationships oriented around product sales on the other. Stepwise House occupies the space between those extremes — structured, independent, education-only programmes delivered at a household scale.
The studio's three programmes address distinct stages in a household's financial life. The One Small Step Programme speaks to adults who know they want to improve one aspect of their household finances but find large commitments difficult to sustain. The Careful Borrower Programme addresses the moment before a major borrowing decision — a first home, a vehicle, or a renovation — when understanding the numbers clearly has real consequences. The Terraced Plan Engagement serves households that want a simple, written record of their financial direction across three time horizons, produced through a facilitated process they can own and return to.
All three programmes are delivered one-to-one. There are no group sessions, no webinars, and no recordings circulated after the fact. The facilitator's attention is entirely on the household in the room — or on the call — for the duration of each session.
Shah Alam and the wider Selangor region are home to a large population of working and professional households for whom structured financial education of this kind has not previously been easy to find. Stepwise House exists, in part, to make that option available closer to home.
